Wellbeing @ Corpus Christi
As a small school with strong community connections, we value and nurture the relationships that help our students thrive. Our wellbeing initiatives aim to build self-esteem, social-emotional wellbeing, resilience, strong relationships, and effective communication skills.
We foster connection through our Buddies Program linking Year 6 and Foundation students, and through our Student Leader groups that meet regularly for sport and community activities. Students can also participate in Mini Vinnies, choir and lunchtime clubs during break times.
Wellbeing is supported at a whole-school level through Respectful Relationships and our Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) framework as Tier 1 supports. Transition across year levels is given extra consideration to ensure smooth, positive movement into the next stage of learning. Within classrooms, students engage in circle time to strengthen interpersonal skills and responsible decision-making, as well as brain breaks to maintain focus and concentration.
We have a dedicated Mental Health In Schools Leader and a Student Wellbeing Leader available for student and family support.
We have Child Safe Officers designated to champion child safety, oversee compliance with standards, and act as the primary point of contact for student, staff, and parent safety concerns.
Student Wellbeing at Corpus Christi School is always a high priority due to current research that shows a happy and connected child has greater success at school.
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) @ Corpus Christi
Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL) is a whole-school framework that promotes positive, inclusive and consistent approaches to student wellbeing and behaviour.
Guided by the MACS Vision for Engagement, PBL focuses on creating safe, supportive and engaging learning environments where every student can flourish. Clear expectations for behaviour are explicitly taught, modelled and reinforced across all settings in the school.
Students are supported to develop self-regulation, respect and responsibility through positive relationships and shared language. Behaviour is viewed as a skill that can be taught and strengthened over time. Data is used to inform teaching, targeted support and ongoing improvement. PBL celebrates positive behaviour and encourages students to make good choices. Families are partners in reinforcing shared expectations. When expectations are clear and relationships are strong, students are more confident, more engaged and more able to flourish. For families, this means they will begin to see:
- Shared language around our school values and expectations
- A focus on recognising and celebrating positive choices
- Consistent and fair responses to behaviour
- Opportunities to partner with us so home and school can partner together
PBL is a long-term commitment to nurturing a community where every child feels they belong and has what they need to succeed socially, emotionally and academically.
